KISSIMMEE, Fla., November 30, 11:45 am — Jim Welsh, KUA’s President & General Manager, has been appointed to a 2-year term as chairman of the Florida Municipal Power Pool (FMPP).
The FMPP was formed in 1988 by municipal electric utilities in an effort to use their combined generating resources more economically. FMPP is an integrated pool, meaning the utilities operate their combined generating resources as if they were owned by one utility. Each day, load forecasts are prepared for the pool, and units are scheduled to go on- and off-line in the most efficient combination.
The FMPP is made up of three electric utilities — KUA, Orlando Utilities Commission, and Lakeland Electric — and the Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) whose primary purpose is to enable municipal electric utilities to work together for mutual advantage on joint projects, such as power supply resources, fuel supplies and transmission facilities.
Welsh has managed the electric utility in Kissimmee since 1982, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of both the American Public Power Association and the Florida Municipal Electric Association.
KUA is Florida’s 7th largest municipally-owned utility serving 53,000 electric, water and internet customers in five Central Florida counties. KUA will be celebrating its 100th year of serving the community in 2001.
