KISSIMMEE, Fla., March 19, 2007 – Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) has earned the Florida Municipal Electric Association’s 2007 Safety Award for safe operating practices.
KUA was one of 23 utilities recognized at an awards banquet held March 17 in Ocala, Fla.
Entrants were placed in categories according to their number of worker-hours and judged for the most incident-free records during 2006. The incidence rate, used to judge contest entries, is based on the number of work-related reportable injuries or illnesses and the number of worker-hours during 2006, as defined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
KUA received third place in the category for utilities with 500,000-749,000 worker-hours of exposure.
“We’re proud of KUA employees and their continued commitment to workplace safety,” said KUA’s vice president of human resources Wilbur Hill. “Positive attitudes toward safety benefit employees, their families, and our customers.”
Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
