KISSIMMEE, Fla., May 12, 9:00 am – A small electrical fire Monday morning at Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) headquarters temporarily disabled the utility’s primary phone system and power outage reporting system.
At 5:28 am, utility personnel reported a suspected fire to the Kissimmee Fire Department. All employees were immediately evacuated from the building, located at 1701 W. Carroll Street in Kissimmee. Upon arrival, the firefighters identified the source of the fire to be a large DC to AC invertor used to provide emergency backup power to the building in the event of a power outage.
Power to the building was restored at 6:00 am and phone service was restored at 8:30 am. KUA’s customer service center opened as usual at 7:30 am.
Founded in 1901, KUA is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility serving 58,000 electric, water and internet customers in five Central Florida counties.
